The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
