Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
