New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was āin good spiritsā during their recent conversation.
āThatās what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,ā Glenn commented. āHis wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.ā
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.
āDonāt know just yet,ā he added. āYet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.ā
NYPD issued security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned itās not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking āconstantlyā since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.
āMy initial concern, he recently became a father,ā Glenn said. āAnd Iām thinking about his wife, Iām thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. And thatās the only thing that really went through my mind.
āThere is a procedure involved, which I wonāt get into, but Iām happy at the fact that heās going to come out of this thing really, really well.ā
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.
āHe remains involved with our activities,ā Glenn stated. āIn fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the leagueās best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.ā
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
