Baroque Works is poised to exert significant influence in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, although the real showdown isn’t set to occur until the third season, and a cherished, audience-beloved member has now been chosen.
The streaming service revealed Tuesday that Cole Escola has joined the One Piece season 3 cast and will embody Bon Clay. The role possesses the power to transform into an identical duplicate of any person they’ve made contact with with their dominant hand. Escola, who is gender non-conforming and goes by they/them, will portray a version of that character reimagined as gender non-binary, rather than as a drag queen, in the live-action series, as in the original manga and anime.
This performer is joined by multiple new cast members set to bring the group to life, including chief the main antagonist, portrayed by the well-known actor, a talented actress as Miss Goldenweek, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who also joins the lineup as the monarch of the desert kingdom.
Even though Bon Clay is a important part of the group, the character won’t appear until One Piece season 3. With the second season likely to portray the Little Garden storyline, this marks a notable change in the timing of Bon Clay’s introduction, one that could indicate additional alterations to the narrative framework.
Their mix of excellent comedic sense and deep sensitivity makes them a standout choice for the part. In addition to their recent voice performance in the youth-focused cartoon movie Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and several accolades for penning and acting in the popular theatrical show Oh Mary!, emphasizing the adaptability they’ll add to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.
The streaming service’s real-life One Piece program is due to premiere for its next installment on March 10, 2026.
