The English squad will initiate their 2028 European Championship journey at the Etihad Stadium, assuming they secure the expected qualification for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
Cityâs stadium has not hosted an English menâs match since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The event was unveiled at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they approached the site by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel to be removed from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Banners were raised with phrases saying âShow Israel the red cardâ and âYou are complicitâ, while demonstrators called out: âKick Israel out.â
The first match of the tournament will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature the Welsh team if they secure a place.
The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.
It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help reach a broader range of viewers.
The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Hampden Park.
Each host nationâs squad will participate in the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the qualification path.
Villa Park and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at the national stadium of each host.
The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
âThis will be a competition for the fans and a showcase of everything we cherish about the game â its fervor and ability to unite individuals.â
More than three million tickets, a unprecedented number for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to attendees.
